Rap music has become a part of my life. This comes as no surprise to me however due to the fact that I have been listening to it since before I could even remember. Out of both my parents my mom exposed me to rap music the most. My mom is the type of person to have the speakers turned all the way up. So most of my childhood consisted of rap music being blasted on speakers. The list of rappers my mom listened to goes on and on. Some of the artists she used to play included Future, Rich Homie Quan, Drake, etc. My dad listened to rap but he never played specific artists, instead he would just put on the radio.
As I got older rap music seemed to always stick with me. The middle school I went to had a majority of black students, and almost everyone at my middle school only listened to rap music. Some students would play music off of their phones, and it was always rap music. Some of the rappers played included Chief Keef, Migos, Bobby Shmurda, etc. By the time I got to high school rap music was the only music that interested me. I listen to rap because I am able to relate to certain things in the lyrics. I usually surround myself with people who have the same taste in music as me. I have listened to rap music so much that I don’t even like listening to other music now. Whenever I try to listen to other types of music it does not satisfy me as much. This semester I am taking a music history class just to get some exposure from other forms of music. So far it has not really had a change on the music I listen to.
