Youtube has become an important platform for rappers to put out their music. In youtube's case the money is made from advertisements. This means that the more views you get, the more ads people watch, which leads to more money being made. It’s not only able to make money, but can also be used to increase your fan base by having popular channels promote you like “WorldStarHipHop”.
Licensing and Placements
This includes getting your music placed in commercials, tv shows, movies, and video games to gain more popularity which will increase that songs sales. This can be a useful strategy especially if you’re being promoted on a popular source. For example Wiz Khalifa “See You Again” was promoted in Furious 7, which was getting lots of attention due to Paul Walker's death. Live Performances
Rappers are always going on tours and performing at shows. This is not only to make money, but also to give their fans a good experience to leave an impact on them. Having a good time at a concert will prompt you to go to the next one. For example an artist I listen to named “Polo G” is coming to IUP to perform next month. I am excited for him to come perform because he was supposed to perform last semester, but ended up cancelling on us.
